INDUCTION LOOP
Over 10% of the population suffers from a hearing impairment and under the Disability Discrimination Act, anyone offering goods; facilities or services to the public must make ‘reasonable’ adjustments to ensure they are not discriminated against. A simple way to meet this requirement is to have a portable induction loop available for use.

Audio frequency Induction Loop Systems (AFILS) work by transmitting amplified sound to NHS hearing aids. Most hearing aids have a ‘T’ or ‘MT’ switch which allows them to pick up the electromagnetic signal generated by an induction loop system. The hearing aid converts this signal into a sound suited to its users specific hearing requirements, allowing them to participate more fully in general conversation, etc.
Induction Loops can be installed in the fabric of a building or alternatively portable units can be used. Portable induction loops are particularly useful for use at Reception desks and rooms used occasionally for the hard of hearing. Portable induction loops tend to generates a loop listening field of approx 1.2 square metre.
